LIGHTNING RIDGE BLACK OPAL DOUBLETS | |
Here are some of the high dome doublets we brought back from Lightning Ridge this summer. These stones are unusually well cut and even better looking than the pictures portray. Outstanding doublets are unusual-to-rare and they are from one-tenth to one-twentieth the cost of a comparable solid black opal stone. In an appropriate setting, no one will be able to tell that their owner has just saved several thousand dollars. | |

MORE UNCOMMON SOLID BLACK OPALS

Where else could you see so much black opal in one place at one time? All these stones are from known, stable fields -- none of them come from the infamous, cracky, new field at Lightning Ridge known as Mulga's Rush. They have been cut by our friends, the miners, themselves and are offered at wholesale Australian (as opposed to NY or LA wholesale) prices in lots. Individual stones are also discounted to wholesale. These two miners want to "cash-up" as they say in OZ. | |

hgminer-big-parcel. These are a few of the stones shown in the hands of the miner on an earlier catalogue page. They come from seam black opal and show two distinct forms of harlequin fire -- floral and "normal" -- according to the miner. They are offered cheap because the miner needs money for new equipment. The Australian wholesale price for the parcel is $90,000. Individual stones are priced at a discount to wholesale also. |

H-tibara-lot1. These are non-Lightning Ridge Black Opals. They are from a 15-year-old Mintabie parcel with the exception of teardrop which is from Andamooka. This washed-out image does not do justice to them. They are darker than they appear here. The wholesale price for the lot is $140,870. They are also discounted individually. |
